In making important commercial decisions, senior management frequently have to rely upon facts, data and opinions presented by a third party. Then, at a later date, often when it is too late, it transpires that the information given is not as factual as claimed. This is a particular area where validating such information, through SIP'S professional intelligence service, can prove to be extremely beneficial to a company. Intelligence gathering is the art of investigation and research. It has to be dealt with discreetly, so that the investigated party does not become aware of the situation, yet efficiently, so that the information required is produced quickly and accurately. Background checks can range from the birth of an individual or incorporation of a company to the present day activities. The information obtained under this head can prove invaluable to any company when they are considering the appointment of an individual to a position of trust and responsibility or, in cases of acquisition or merger etc, in order to confirm the bone fide of the target company and the claims being made on its behalf. Equally important is the knowledge that your own organisation is operating efficiently. For example, are you manufacturers, dispatches, sales, customer service staff etc, working according to your expectations? This are, long term contributes to the continued success of the company or its failure. Therefore, the actions of those employed within these categories should be monitored periodically.
Competitive intelligence is a 'value added' concept that layers over the top of business development, market research and strategic planning. The typical objectives of C.I. research include:
SIP's commercial research resources will prove invaluable to those companies who are considering a new opening overseas or determining their existing market share, insofar as:
Market Sector Reports and Customised Marketing Analysis:
SIP can monitor the major markets throughout the world including the Middle and Far East, Africa or Eastern Block counties, etc. Feasibility Studies are performed quickly and professionally by SIP's research staff. They are able to access source which have a practical local knowledge and a thorough access to local procedures, trends and practices in these locations.
SIP surveillance and undercover personnel are of the highest calibre some of which having served either in the SAS, Marines, Intelligence Services or other organisations of similar background.
Surveillance often plays a major part in the investigation of fraud, corruption, theft, leakage of corporate information etc. SIP's specialist surveillance teams have been trained to follow individuals very discreetly and are fully equipped with photographic, covert video, voice recording and communication systems. This often proves invaluable in obtaining corroborative evidence. For example, a member of staff who has knowledge of sensitive corporate information, meeting with a competitor, fraudulent claims as well as other illicit acts i.e. theft etc.
SIP also supply and install covert surveillance cameras and audio within the client premises to identify individuals and capture on tape evidence of their illicit activities. The systems are state of the art they are hardly detectable and produce exceptional quality pictures.
When client companies are of the impression that they are under threat of losing sensitive information or theft of equipment, manufactured products etc through the illicit activities of members of staff. It is often necessary to install an undercover investigator within the client company who then works within the suspect area so to infiltrate and identify the parties guilty of any illicit act and gain suitable evidence against them to support a prosecution. Our undercover investigators fit in most employment area's, from office, factory, building sites etc and have a wealth of experience in this field.
Another are where undercover investigators are used to infiltrate gangs or organisations dealing in counterfeiting or piracy of a clients products. These undercover investigators often have to take on a new identity during the operation and are closely supported by back up surveillance teams.
Commercial Investigations cover an extensive number of service that we are able to provide, the following are to name a few:

Using state of the art receiving equipment the sweep identified bugs in a wide range of highly sensitive locations, including the security office of one of the largest private companies in the UK, the executive apartment of a leading Middle Eastern business, the West End offices of an international finance company and an office suite occupied by a prominent foreign politician. Monitoring signals were also picked up in the vicinity of the Football Association's headquarters at Lancaster Gate and within 100 yards of Conservative Central Office in Smith Square. None of the companies or individuals concerned were aware that their confidentiality had been invaded and but for the sweep would have remained in blissful ignorance. Although this episode may seem to appear as a spy fiction, it does in fact represent the harsh reality of current commercial life, in which, both companies and individuals are extraordinarily vulnerable to having their conversation or communications intercepted by illegal methods.
It is not only the spoken work, which is at risk, it is just as easy for the perpetrator to intercept date transmissions, such as facsimile and on line computers. For example in respect of the latter, a data monitoring device operates between the keyboard and the computer terminal which retains information of approximately subject to length, the last 30 letters that had been typed. There are a number of companies in the UK and Europe that legally and openly sell "transmitters and other monitoring devices". One company alone in London claims to have 4,500 regular customers and has taken 47,000 enquiries about listening devices within an 18-month period. At a conservative estimate at least 200 units are sold in the UK each day. If only 75 percent were used for illicit commercial reasons, it does not take long to realise the high level of risk each company has been illegally monitored.
This is one aspect of security of which every reasonable Chairman, Director or Security Officer should be aware.
SIP offers a service in 'Counter Electronic Surveillance', which is second to none. SIP technicians are of the highest calibre in terms of both expertise and integrity whilst the equipment employed is, in our opinion, the best available and is constantly updated to keep pace with changing technology.
Often companies conduct their own in-house CES Surveys, this should be treated with caution as some security officers and indeed consultants lack the expertise and technical knowledge to carry out the survey correctly, also the equipment used can be very basics with limited sensitivity and capabilities. The end result being that once the survey is complete, sensitive issues can be discussed under a 'false' sense of security, do not take this risk, contact SIP now in the interest of your security.
SIP Services is an independent company and has no commercial agreement with suppliers of either software or hardware products. With its security contacts and associates throughout the world, SIP is able to offer its clients an exceptional service performed by qualified and competent consultants.

Incident Handling
High Technology Investigations is a skilful art requiring experience, knowledge, resources and subtlety. Unfortunately, many organisations have found themselves the victims of systems or communications tampering, information warfare, sabotage, fraud or other forms of computer misuse.
When incidents like this occur, there can be confusion or conjecture as to why or how it happened and what to do.
Breaches of security need a methodical approach with the ability to:
- Understand the extent of an incident
- Protect the systems, the networks and their ability to continue operating as intended
- Protect systems and date
- Understand what happened and advise accordingly
- Collect accurate information without which you may inadvertently compromise your systems further
- Assist with investigations to the appropriate legal standard
SIP consultants have been undertaking investigation into computer misuse and major fraud for a considerable length of time, some going back fifteen years. We have recourse to the latest technologies and methods in forensic examination and investigation techniques and work to the highest level of proof and evidence. That experience is there to support you and your organization.
Penetration Testing
Independent testing of systems has an important part to play in verifying the continued effectiveness of IT security arrangements. The vary nature of this form of active testing needs to be carried out under controlled conditions by competent personnel.
Systems vary considerably, whether as a result of the differences in operating platforms of their configuration, as a consequence testers need to apply procedures with an appropriate degree of rational and common sense and not just rely on a number of automated packages to provide the answers.
The reviews SIP submits to its clients are accurate, concise and come with a 'jargon free' management summary. Our recommendations are realistic, cost effective and user friendly.

The use of Polygraph by Government Agencies in the United States commenced in 1921 and slowly spread into commercial usage. By the late 1970's commercial use of the instrument was widespread with hundreds of Polygraph companies providing their services to many thousands of organisations in all sectors of trade and industry, as well as Law enforcement offices and is now being more widely used in the UK.
Modern use of Polygraph is generally in one of four main categories:
1. Legal Defence, some UK lawyers are now currently arranging for such test to be carried out on their clients who are charged with a criminal act. A number of the said tests are showing that the person is innocent. We wait with baited breath to see how the evidence is proved in Court and if it is willingly accepted as evidence.
2. Pre-employment Screening, to verify that information provided by prospective employees is truthful.
3. Honesty Maintenance, to help employers to contain and eliminate staff theft and dishonesty.
4. Specific Examinations, to identify the perpetrators of specific incidents, such as the theft of cash, property of information, murder, rape etc.
As an example since 1982 one of our selected 'Polygraphist' has carried out many hundreds of tests for a wide variety of clients, ranging from Foreign Governments and National Security Agencies, Multi National Corporations and Banks, Tribunals and private individuals. All clients are protected by confidentiality agreements, although cases which have been disclosed to the public, by the clients include tests on convicted murderer James Robinson (Carl Bridgewater, the newspaper boy of Yew Tree Farm), Christopher Craig (convicted murderer of PC Miles in the 'Let him have it Chris' case), Sally Croft and Susan Hagan (extradited to USA for supposedly conspiring to assassinate the Attorney General of Oregon), the Mehta Brothers in Bombay, accused of bribing Prime Minister Narasimha Rao in 1993 and Colin Stagg who had been accused of the Rachel Nickell murder.
SIP uses the services of an established laboratory in order to carry out specialist forensic examination involving blood analysis/interpretation of blood stain patterns, blood/breath alcohol detection and identification of flammable liquid residues (fire accelerants), DNA, document alterations/forgeries, drug abuses/supply and manufacture, erased engine/chassis numbers, exhibits handling procedures (contamination, continuity of evidence), fires/explosions (including scenes and associated appliances, electrical wiring and equipment), footwear impressions, glass hairs, oils/greases, paint, postal fraud, scenes of crime examination/interpretation, sex crime investigation (including semen, saliva, vaginal and faecal material), textile fibre evidence, tool marks and weapons in relation to damage etc.
